In honor of the tulips being in full bloom in the Pacific Northwest, here is some tulip inspiration!
I came across this fantastic DIY project today on
Honestly…WTF and can’t wait to make my own (and they’re waaaay more affordable than
this Giles & Brother version!). They’d make great handmade gifts for the ladies in your bridal party, don’t you think? —Heather Lee
Supplies
3 strands of twine cut into one-yard pieces
18 small brass hex nuts

Gather the 3 strands of twine and tie a knot at the top, leaving about 2 inches of slack. Start braiding. At about an inch of the way down, you’ll begin braiding in the nuts. Before you braid the far-left strand over the middle strand, thread on a nut, push it against the base of the braid, and cross over. Depending on the thickness of the twine, you can wrap tape around the bottom tips to prevent the twine from fraying.

Keep your thumb at the base of the braid, holding the nut in its place. Before you braid the far-right strand over the middle, thread on another nut, push it against the base of the braid, and cross over. Again, hold your thumb tightly against the base of the braid, keeping the nuts in place. Thread another nut onto the far-left piece and cross over.

Repeat the steps by threading the rest of the nuts to the outer pieces of twine before they are crossed over. Thread, cross, thread, cross. Finish the bracelet with another inch of braided twine and a knot. The bracelet should wrap around your wrist at least two or three times. Trim it to your liking.
Hand to Hold
What You Need: blindfold
- **This game is specifically for the bride & groom.
- Have at least 5 male guests line up in a row with their left hand out. Have the groom be mixed in the line-up as well.
- Blindfold the bride and have her guess the spouse-to-be’s hand from the line-up. Try not to have too many guests as it will be even more confusing.
- Allow her to guess until correct. Keep track of how many guesses it took.
- Repeat for the groom’s turn but with a new line up of people.
- Whichever spouse had the least amount of guesses wins!
Love at First Bite (Version One)
What You Need:blindfolds, cake, timer
- **This game is specifically for the bride & groom.
- Have the blindfolded groom stand 10 feet away from each the seated bride. Don’t let him know ahead of time where she is.
- Give the groom a slice of cake on a plate to feed the bride!
- Time how long it takes for the groom to find the bride. Neither one can speak but the bride may make sounds to let him know where she is.
- Switch places and see who has the fastest time to win!
Love at First Bite (Version Two)
What You Need: blindfolds, cake
- **This game is specifically for the bride & groom.
- Have the blindfolded couple stand 10 feet away from each other while holding a slice of cake in their hands.
- Tell them to find each other and feed one another a piece of the cake.
- There is no real winner or point to the game but it is fun to watch!
Pass the Bouquet
What You Need:bouquet, music
- **Similar to the traditional game of Hot Potato.
- Have guests create a circle.
- Pass a bouquet around while the music plays.
- When the music stops, whoever is holding the bouquet is out.
- **If there are many participants, you can create groups of 5 per circle then minimize from there to create the “finals” of the game.
Through the Years
What You Need:a dozen photos of the bride growing up, a dozen photos of the groom growing up, sheets of paper, pens/pencils
- Assemble the photos in no specific order and display someplace everyone can see. Number the photos.
- Have guests write down their guess as to how old the bride and groom were in the picture.
- A prize goes to the person who gets the most ages right.
DIY: Kids’ Favors - Wedding Fun book
Wedding showers (which is pretty much a combined bride & groom shower) are some of the most fun events in the wedding process. It can be themed to fit the couple’s taste, history, or to match the wedding theme! Because it is not as planned out as the wedding nor is it planned by the bride & groom, it is a lighter affair without all the fanfare reserved for the wedding reception.
Here are some of my favorite wedding shower games! They can be modified for a bridal shower as well if needed :)
Enjoy! - aHappyWedding
Dress Up (Version One)
What You Need: Toilet paper rolls, Aluminum Foil, Imagination
- Separate the participating guests into equal teams (men vs women, youth vs adults, mixed) and have them choose two representatives.
- Give each team a roll of toilet paper and roll of aluminum foil to start with.
- Each team must dress up each representative as the bride and groom using only the toilet paper and aluminum foil … within 5 minutes.
- After the 5 minutes is over, the bride & groom choose the winners.
- ** In case they use an absurd amount, have extra rolls of both available.
- ** No need to buy brand name items. All toilet paper and aluminum foil should be disposed after the game.
The Only Two in the Room
What You Need: sheets of paper, pens/pencils
- ** This game is best played after an hour into the wedding shower.
- Have the bride & groom leave the room for 5 minutes after mingling with the guests.
- In the 5 minutes of their absence, allow each table to compete as a group against the other tables to successfully complete the sheet which asks for specific details of the bride & groom’s attire (ex: color of dress, heels or flats, did he wear a watch, color of tie, hair up or down, etc.)
- After 5 minutes are over, have the couple return to the room to compare the guests’ answers. Whoever has the most correct is the winning table.
Who Says
What You Need: sheets of paper, pens/pencils
- Beforehand, create a list of things the bride or groom had to say about each other. Replace specific words (he/she, him/her, their names) with (blank) and have the guests guess who said what.
- Example of things to ask groom/bride to comment on: Best thing about their spouse-to-be? Who do they believe will be the best at cooking? Etc.
(Un)Tying The Knot
What You Need: large space to be played
- **The more people involved in this game, the more space may be needed.
- Separate the guests into equal groups of at least 5 people (The “Knot-ty”), plus one person to be the designated “Eyes” for the group.
- The “Knot-ty” must stand either in a circle (doesn’t matter if they are facing one another or not) and grab a hand of another member of the group. Note, you cannot grab the hand of the person next to you! When done properly, you have made a knot of hands that the “Eyes” must untangle.
- After each group is done with the knotting of hands, allow the “Eyes” to then ‘untangle’ the messy knot.
- The “Eyes” cannot touch the “Hands” but can coach the group to untangle themselves by directions and pointing. The “Hands” must hold hands throughout the entire process of untangling or else will be disqualified.
- The winner is chosen as the first group who has successfully untangled the hands to create a circle. It does not matter if the “Hands” are facing different ways as long as they are in a circle.
- **This game should be trialed for directions and demonstration before the party as it can get complicated.
- **If there are only 2 groups, have the “Eyes” be the Bride vs the Groom to see who is quickest to complete the task.
Wedding Charades
What You Need: slips of paper written with wedding words
- This is pretty self explanatory :)
Newspaper Dance
What You Need: newspaper, music
- Have guests split into pairs and give each pair one sheet of newspaper.
- Place newspaper between the pair. Play music and have the pair dance in a circle around the newspaper. (Think, musical chairs.)
- When the music stops, each pair must be standing on the newspaper. Be creative when doing so. Pair must stay on the newspaper for 5 seconds. It is fair to be critical in seeing if their heels are OFF the newspaper!
- After the 5 seconds (or however many seconds you choose), have the pair fold the newspaper in half (Make sure all pairs fold the same way to be fair) and play the music again.
- Continue the cycle of stopping music, getting on the newspaper, folding newspaper, dancing again until there is one pair left.
- A pair is out when they cannot hold their position for 5 seconds or are stepping out of the newspaper when the music is stopped.
- **It is allowed for one person to carry another as long as no one is OFF the newspaper and that they can hold their position for 5 seconds! This game gets interesting after the first few folds!

Ok, so when you get engaged and you’re planning your wedding you immediately think of your dress. What it’s going to look like, whether you want white, ivory, or blush, a long train, straps, yada yada yada. But I’m kind of realizing that there are a lot of other important garments that brides have…
